Ed Sheeran Addresses Macklemore’s Tour Exit, Clarifies Decision Was Not His

By Editor • September 15, 2026 • 1 min read

In a recent statement, Ed Sheeran has addressed the controversial decision to drop Macklemore from his U.S. Loop tour, asserting that the move was dictated by the concert promoters, not by him. The announcement comes in the wake of Macklemore’s politically charged remarks on stage, where he voiced strong support for Palestine during performances at MetLife Stadium on September 4 and 5.

Sheeran explained that after Macklemore's remarks, which included the phrase 'Free Palestine,' venues for upcoming tour dates expressed their unwillingness to host the concerts if Macklemore remained on the lineup. According to Sheeran, discussions took place over the week with the venues, including conversations with prominent figures such as Robert Kraft, but ultimately, the decision rested with the promoters.

Sheeran’s Stance on Political Engagement

While Sheeran respects Macklemore’s right to express his beliefs, he emphasized that his own approach to advocacy is different. He stated, 'I have my personal views on this devastating conflict,' but he chooses not to use his platform for political discourse, especially knowing that his audience includes many young fans. 'Those who come to my shows do not expect a political forum,' he remarked.

The Fallout from Macklemore’s Comments

Macklemore’s comments, which included a heartfelt message for those in Gaza and the West Bank, resonated strongly on social media, leading to a petition from the Israeli American Council demanding his removal from the tour. The petition argued that the concert should not serve as a platform for political agendas. Following these developments, the Messina Touring Group, responsible for the U.S. leg of Sheeran’s tour, confirmed that Macklemore would no longer perform at the remaining eight shows of the tour, which is set to continue on September 19 in Philadelphia.
