Eiffel Tower Closure Sparks Strike Over Gender Discrimination

In a surprising turn of events, the Eiffel Tower was closed on Monday as workers protested against the exclusion of female employees during a recent visit by a Hindu delegation. The strike was sparked by claims that female staff were sidelined at the request of the visiting group, leading to widespread outrage among the workers.
The incident occurred on Saturday when the delegation from the Bochsanwasi Akshar Purshottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) visited the iconic Paris landmark. According to staff and management, the group specifically requested that interactions with women be minimized during their visit. This request has drawn significant criticism, prompting a strong response from the CGT trade union.
In a statement, the union condemned the directives that resulted in female employees being “sidelined, replaced and rendered invisible” solely based on their gender. Paris Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire also weighed in, calling the exclusion of women “unacceptable” and contrary to the values upheld by the Eiffel Tower.
