Fuel Prices Surge: Petrol Up by Rs12.90, Diesel by Rs3.72

The government has announced a significant increase in fuel prices, raising petrol by Rs12.90 per litre and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs3.72 per litre, effective September 8.
With these adjustments, petrol will now cost Rs358.77 per litre while HSD will be priced at Rs381.77 per litre. The current tax structure remains substantial, with Rs114 per litre imposed on petrol and Rs100 on diesel.
The rise in diesel prices marks a decline from the peak of Rs520.35 recorded on April 3, following a steady increase that began from Rs281 per litre after the onset of the US-Iran conflict on February 28. Petrol also saw a peak price of Rs458.41 on the same date.
In a bid to adapt to the volatile international market, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik revealed on July 17 that fuel prices would be determined daily, a shift from the previous weekly adjustments. This change aims to address fluctuations resulting from ongoing geopolitical tensions and to better manage fuel supply amid potential disruptions.
