Emotional Depths Explored in kelogsloops' Watercolors

Melbourne artist Hieu Thien Nguyen, known as kelogsloops, delves into themes of love and mortality through her ethereal watercolors. Her upcoming exhibition, Love, Death, & All Her Friends, opens on September 19 at Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles.

Drawing inspiration from the ancient concept of memento mori, kelogsloops' work features dreamlike imagery with a recurring character—a young woman with white hair. The paintings are rich with symbolism, including black wolves, foxes, and swirling starlight, which convey the intensity of love and the inevitability of loss.

“There is no bitterness,” kelogsloops explains, “but instead an honest look at what it means to love something, knowing it won’t last forever, but to find beauty in that anyway.” The exhibition runs until October 24, inviting viewers to reflect on the delicate balance between reality and the unknown.
