Ernest Bai Koroma Returns to Sierra Leone as Treason Charges Are Dropped

Former President of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma, made his return to the nation on Sunday, receiving a warm welcome from authorities as the treason charges against him were officially dismissed.

Korama's departure from Sierra Leone occurred in 2024, shortly after he was charged with treason related to an attempted coup following a violent military uprising in 2023. His return marks a significant development in the political landscape of Sierra Leone.

Upon landing at the international airport in Freetown, Koroma was greeted by a number of officials, including former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, who accompanied him back to his homeland.
