Escalating Violence as Israeli Forces Demolish Homes in West Bank

By Editor • September 1, 2026 • 1 min read

In a troubling escalation of violence, Israeli forces have demolished several Palestinian homes in the occupied West Bank, coinciding with settler attacks on the village of Burqa. The incidents occurred on Monday, just before the upcoming Israeli elections in October.

According to reports from the Palestinian news agency Wafa, two residential buildings in Birzet, near Ramallah, were destroyed under the pretext of lacking building permits. Additionally, a bulldozer razed a two-storey house and a three-storey building under construction in Nablus.

Violence surged in Burqa as settlers raided the village, with video evidence showing confrontations between settlers and residents. Witnesses reported multiple assaults, including attempts to ignite vehicles and the theft of livestock.

This surge in settler violence has drawn the attention of the European Union, where discussions are underway about potential sanctions on goods from illegal settlements. Ireland, leading the charge, is advocating for a unified approach among EU member states amid growing concerns over the humanitarian implications of the ongoing conflict.
