Finecut Secures Global Sales for Hong Sangsoo's Prizewinning Film Ahead of Toronto Festival

As the Toronto Film Festival approaches, Korean sales company Finecut has successfully brokered a series of international sales agreements for three highly anticipated festival films, including the award-winning feature "Nowhere to Lay My Eyes" by renowned director Hong Sangsoo.

Award-Winning Feature Gains Traction

"Nowhere to Lay My Eyes" has made waves since its premiere at the 79th Locarno Film Festival, where it not only competed in the prestigious Concorso Internazionale but also clinched three significant awards: the Pardo for Best Direction, the Pardo for Best Performance, and the Ecumenical Jury Prize. The film, which marks Hong's 35th feature, delves into the complexities of family relationships as it follows a woman who reunites with her mother and brother after a decade apart.

Expanding Global Reach

Finecut's sales efforts have resulted in the film being acquired by several distributors around the world, including Cinema Guild for North America, Institute of Contemporary Arts for the U.K., Atalante for Spain, Hugoeast for China, Filmgarten for Austria, and Cola Films for Taiwan.

Exciting New Projects on the Horizon

In addition to Hong's film, Finecut has also pre-sold the animated feature "Long Long Night," which marks Youm Kyu Bock's directorial debut. Scheduled for its world premiere in the Centrepiece selection at Toronto, this film has garnered interest from Japan's Geek Pictures Inc. due to its poignant narrative based on a bestselling Korean novel. Furthermore, director July Jung’s "Dora," which debuted in Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight, has also been acquired by Geek Pictures Inc. for Japan and Light Year Images for Taiwan. Finecut will also showcase new projects such as the animated adventure "Guardians of the Video Game" and the horror-thriller "Wash Away" at the Toronto festival.
