Gary Oldman Clarifies His Comments on Next James Bond Casting

By Editor • September 13, 2026 • 1 min read

In a recent session at the Toronto International Film Festival, Gary Oldman addressed swirling rumors regarding the next actor to don the iconic James Bond tuxedo. Earlier in the week, his remarks led many to believe that his co-star from 'Slow Horses', Jack Lowden, might be stepping into the role.

However, Oldman was quick to clarify his position, stating that he does not have any insider knowledge about who will be the next Bond. During the TIFF Visionaries event, he told host Josh Horowitz, "The press has taken things to the very edge of almost misquoting me, but they don’t." He explained that it was a Canadian journalist who initially brought up the topic of Lowden and Bond, not him.

Despite the misunderstanding, Oldman expressed his hope for Lowden, saying, "Fingers crossed for my man Jack. That was it." With a light-hearted tone, he joked about having connections with the Bond team but reaffirmed, "I do not know who the next James Bond is." Oldman’s caution stems from a previous experience where he faced backlash for prematurely discussing a third Batman film, emphasizing his desire to avoid similar situations in the future.
