Harlem's Fashion Row Unveils New Magazine at Star-Studded New York Fashion Week Event

The vibrant atmosphere of New York Fashion Week was kicked off with the 19th annual Harlem's Fashion Row Runway Show and Style Awards, held on Tuesday evening. This year's event, themed "Peace by Piece," emphasized the importance of maintaining serenity while pursuing one's passions in the fashion industry.

Brandice Daniel, the founder and CEO of Harlem's Fashion Row, opened the event with an empowering message for emerging designers and entrepreneurs. She encouraged attendees to embrace the journey of building their careers step by step rather than being overwhelmed by the process. "You don’t have to build everything overnight, in chaos, or afraid, you can build in peace," she stated.

Adding to the celebratory nature of the evening was the launch of HFR's inaugural magazine, featuring actress Tracee Ellis Ross as the cover star. Ross, who has been a part of the Harlem's Fashion Row community since 2015, expressed her pride in the organization’s mission to uplift Black designers and creatives. "For 19 years, HFR has held space for black designers and creatives to be seen, celebrated, and supported," she remarked.

The awards segment recognized outstanding contributions in the industry, with Brandon Blackwood receiving the Designer of the Year award. Jahleel Weaver, who revolutionized maternity style while working with Rihanna, was honored as Stylist of the Year. Other accolades included Recho Omondi as Editor of the Year and Audrey Smaltz with the Ann Lowe Maverick Award. Erykah Badu also celebrated her Fashion Icon award via a video message.

The event culminated in a runway show featuring 11-year-old designer Brooke Sumpter and her collaboration with American Girl, along with collections from Atelier Ndigo and Rey Jaiteh. Notably, a $100,000 Runway Ahead Prize was awarded to Waina Chancy to enhance her brand's development.
