Hyke has officially ventured into the realm of menswear for its Spring 2027 collection, marking a significant milestone for the brand. Designers Hideaki Yoshihara and Yukiko Ode, who have been in the fashion industry since 1998, are bringing their extensive expertise in utilitarian clothing to a new audience of male consumers.
With a focus on minimalism, this season’s offerings include striking saxe blue shirts, durable black cargo jackets, and sleek raincoats, all designed to compete with the surge of minimalist menswear brands in Japan. Reflecting on their decision to expand, Yoshihara shared, "We’ve been doing unisex styles for about ten seasons now, but wholesale buyers have been asking for [dedicated] menswear." After much deliberation, the team decided to fully commit to this new direction.
The innovative spirit of Hyke shines through in both menswear and womenswear. The collection showcases women’s tailoring with slit sleeves for enhanced movement, cricket sweater vests with side openings, and oversized men’s T-shirts featuring vertical zippers for an androgynous look. Collaborations with Briefing for bags and the iconic British brand Baracuta for jackets added unique touches, including a reinterpretation of Baracuta’s famous tartan lining into a modern black and beige design.
Hyke’s presentation style continues to evolve, incorporating elements of contemporary dance. This season, inspired by choreographer Cindy Van Acker and the Rosas dance company, models were seen mimicking everyday actions like walking and sitting, which created an engaging narrative for the audience. However, some critics felt the film presentation lacked the impact of a live runway show, suggesting it might be time for Hyke to return to traditional fashion displays.
