Bayern Munich's Harry Kane has emerged as a frontrunner for the prestigious 2026 Ballon d'Or, as he secures a spot on the 30-player shortlist, alongside fellow English stars Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice.
In a field that showcases some of the biggest names in football, legendary forward Lionel Messi, now with Inter Miami, also stands out, hoping to clinch his ninth Ballon d'Or. The 39-year-old Argentine scored eight goals during the World Cup, where Argentina fell to Spain in the final before his retirement from international play.
Highlighting the depth of talent on display, the shortlist features six Spanish players, including Lamine Yamal, who triumphed in the World Cup. Ferran Torres, who netted the winning goal in the final and recently transferred to Paris Saint-Germain, is also among the nominees. PSG leads the pack with nine nominations, not including the newly acquired Torres, while last year's winner Ousmane Dembele is also in contention.
Other notable names include Real Madrid stars Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr, as well as Arsenal defenders Gabriel and William Saliba. The 70th edition of the Ballon d'Or will culminate in a ceremony in London on 26 October, honoring the legacy of Sir Stanley Matthews, the award's inaugural recipient.
