Haze from Wildfires Forces 1.4 Million Indonesian Students to Learn Online

In a significant shift towards online education, approximately 1.4 million students across six provinces in Indonesia have transitioned to remote learning due to hazardous air quality resulting from rampant forest and land fires.

As reported on September 2, the situation has affected 12,874 schools, compelling students to adapt to digital classrooms as part of efforts to safeguard their health. Gogot Suharwoto, an official from the education ministry, highlighted the challenges posed by the persistent haze in these regions.

The Indonesian government is ramping up initiatives to combat the thick smoke and improve conditions for both students and residents as the crisis unfolds.
