High No-Show Rates Prompt Review of Sai Kung Trail Booking System

By Editor • September 6, 2026 • 1 min read

In light of significant no-show rates, Hong Kong officials are set to reassess the reservation system for the popular Po Pin Chau trail in Sai Kung after the upcoming National Day holiday. The move comes after a disappointing turnout during the initial trial runs, raising concerns among lawmakers and local representatives.

During the most recent weekend, only 1,560 visitors appeared at the scenic site, despite the fact that 3,230 individuals had secured bookings through the newly implemented real-name reservation system. This stark contrast has led to calls for adjustments to the current system.

Local lawmakers and district councillors are advocating for the introduction of additional on-site quotas to better accommodate spontaneous visitors and ensure that the trail's allure is accessible to all. As the review process unfolds, officials will consider various strategies to enhance the user experience and reduce the number of missed reservations.
