Huawei Unveils Enhanced Tri-Fold Phone with Major Design Overhaul

Huawei has introduced its latest innovation, the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design, addressing a critical flaw present in its original tri-fold phone. The previous model's design left part of the flexible screen vulnerable when closed; however, the new hinge mechanism effectively protects the entire display.
Revolutionary Hinge Mechanism
The Mate XT 2 features a cutting-edge wing-style hinge that cleverly folds both sides of the screen inward, ensuring no part is exposed. This is achieved through a sophisticated dual-axis wing structure paired with a unique connecting-rod synchronization mechanism, allowing for seamless movement between the folding axes. Additionally, a robust core made from 2,400 MPa steel enhances the device's overall durability, improving impact resistance by 100 percent and drop resistance by 90 percent compared to its predecessor.
Impressive Display and Privacy Features
When fully opened, users are greeted with a stunning 10.2-inch 3K OLED display boasting a 90Hz refresh rate. When folded, a 6.5-inch cover display takes charge, operating at a remarkable 120Hz with a peak brightness of 6,500 nits. Notably, the device includes a hardware privacy mode that limits side views, ensuring personal content remains confidential even in crowded environments. This feature can be activated with a double tap on the cover screen or a designated shortcut key.
Top-tier Camera and Performance
The phone's rear camera setup includes a distinctive octagonal module featuring a 50MP main sensor, a 40MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens capable of 100x digital zoom. The device is powered by the Kirin 9050 Pro processor, which maximizes efficiency and performance thanks to its innovative LogicFolding architecture. Running on HarmonyOS 7, the phone adeptly manages multiple apps on its expansive screen, transforming it into a functional workspace.
The Mate XT 2, which retains a sleek profile at just 12.3mm thick and weighs 299 grams, houses a 5,600mAh battery that supports both wired and wireless charging. Prices begin at CNY 19,999 (around $2,800) in China, with the high-end privacy-screen version available for CNY 29,999 (approximately $4,200).
