Kering Launches Generation Award in India, Strengthening Franco-Indian Ties

By Editor • September 7, 2026 • 1 min read

In a significant move aimed at bolstering its commitment to sustainability, Kering has officially announced the expansion of its Generation Award to India. This initiative coincides with the Franco-Indian Year of Innovation, highlighting the growing collaboration between France and India as they prepare for a transformative trade agreement.

The award was launched in China in 2018 and has since been extended to Japan and Saudi Arabia. Kering's partnership with Reliance Brands Limited (RBL) marks a pivotal moment for the award, which focuses on recognizing innovative start-ups in the fashion sector that prioritize sustainability. The memorandum of understanding was signed by Marie-Claire Daveu from Kering and Jaspreet Chandok from RBL at Kering's Paris headquarters, setting the stage for the inaugural award ceremony in New Delhi on October 13.

Collaboration with R|Elan Circular Design Challenge

The upcoming Indian edition of the Generation Award will collaborate closely with the R|Elan Circular Design Challenge, supported by the United Nations in India. This partnership aims to discover start-ups proposing circular initiatives that significantly contribute to resource protection. Daveu expressed enthusiasm about this expansion, emphasizing India's potential as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship in the luxury sector.

Future of Luxury and Sustainable Innovation

Chandok echoed these sentiments, noting that the future of luxury lies in responsible innovation. He remarked on India's rich talent pool that is redefining materials and business models in the fashion industry. This partnership represents a crucial opportunity for Indian innovators to gain international visibility. As French and Indian luxury brands prepare for the anticipated free trade agreement between the European Union and India, both parties are optimistic about the potential benefits for the luxury market, particularly with India’s growing middle class.
