Kintsu Restaurant: A Culinary Gem Resurfaces in Colchester

By Editor • September 6, 2026 • 1 min read

In the heart of Colchester, a city that recently celebrated its elevation from town status, Kintsu restaurant has made a triumphant return after a brief hiatus. Under the guidance of chef Paul Wendholt, Kintsu is redefining dining with a menu that boasts thoughtful, inventive dishes that prioritize flavor without compromising on style.

Originally closed in May 2025 due to financial strains, Kintsu has reemerged just four months later, now offering an exquisite eight-course tasting menu priced at £90 per person. Located in a Grade II-listed building tucked away beside a multi-storey NCP car park, Kintsu’s ambiance might not win awards for aesthetics, but it provides a unique charm that enhances the dining experience.

Guests can indulge in specialties such as treacle-cured Dingley Dell pork sourced from nearby Suffolk, complemented by luscious Colchester cherries infused with amaretto. With Wendholt's impressive accolades, including being a two-time winner of the Essex Chef of the Year, Kintsu promises a meal that is as much about artistry as it is about deliciousness.
