In a significant development amid ongoing hostilities, Yemen's military forces have announced the recapture of the Hais district, a strategic area in close proximity to Hodeidah. This move marks a crucial point in the escalating clashes between the Yemeni government and Houthi rebels, particularly in the provinces of Taiz and Hodeidah.
According to the Anadolu news agency, the recapture of Hais is vital as it connects the provinces of Hodeidah, Taiz, and Ibb. The chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad al-Alimi, expressed confidence in the military's capability to restore full control across the nation and issued a stark warning to the Houthis, stating they would “bear the consequences” of their actions.
The fighting has intensified in recent days, with airstrikes and ground assaults reported across various fronts. The Yemeni military has been actively targeting Houthi positions in Taiz and Lahj, utilizing drone strikes in coordination with ground operations. Colonel Majed al-Nozaili, the military spokesman, noted that these strikes were a direct response to Houthi provocations.
Tragically, the recent clashes in Taiz have resulted in over 60 fatalities, including civilians. Additional reports from Yemen’s state news agency Saba’a highlight the impact on civilians, with Houthi shelling leading to casualties and injuries among a gathering near Taiz. The United Nations has raised alarms over the humanitarian crisis, indicating that approximately 1,800 families have been displaced within just two days as violence escalates.
