‘Kung Fu Soccer’ Leads China’s Summer Box Office Surge

In a remarkable summer for cinema, Stephen Chow's ‘Kung Fu Soccer’ has emerged as the standout hit, grossing RMB2.315 billion ($344.4 million) in China. This contributed to a robust total summer box office of RMB12.498 billion ($1.86 billion), reflecting a 4.45% year-on-year growth, as reported by the Maoyan Research Institute.

The report highlights a 5.86% increase in total cinema admissions, reaching 340 million, indicating a resurgence in audience interest. Average ticket prices have continued to decline, making films more accessible and drawing larger crowds, with single moviegoers increasing for the fourth consecutive year.

Other notable films include ‘Once Upon a Time in the Middle East’ at $290.2 million and the animated feature ‘All Wishes Come True!’ at $274.6 million. Emerging horror films like ‘Obsession’ also showed promising returns, signaling a shift in viewer preferences.
