Manga creator Masami Kurumada revealed on Wednesday that a former executive, who also acted as his manager, allegedly embezzled around ¥4.6 billion from his companies.
Kurumada, known for famous titles like "Ring ni Kakero" and "Saint Seiya," announced that his three firms, including Kurumada Production, have filed a lawsuit in Tokyo District Court for ¥2.88 billion in damages, aside from ¥1.8 billion that has already been recovered.
Expressing his disbelief at the betrayal, Kurumada stated, "I feel helpless and frustrated knowing that there are people who would betray without hesitation the trust placed in them for their own personal gain." According to reports, the former executive misappropriated funds from 2018 to 2024, using them for personal investments, including in cryptocurrency. The scheme was uncovered in February 2024 when it was flagged by the Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau.
