Liars Announce New Album and Single After Five-Year Hiatus

After a five-year break, Liars is set to make their return with a new album titled A Ban on Plastic Bag Bans, which will be released on March 5, 2027, through Mute. The album's title is inspired by an actual law in Michigan and reflects the band's recent experiences in their new hometown of Kalamazoo.

Frontman Angus Andrew revealed that the move to Kalamazoo, where he resides with his wife and daughter, led to a toxic air crisis stemming from a nearby packaging factory. "It wasn’t just the environment that was polluted," he shared, "it was also my mind." This experience influenced the themes of the new album, emphasizing how perceptions of pollution can become ingrained and unnoticed in daily life.

The first single from the album, "Ice Pick, Kalamazoo," has been released alongside a music video filmed in 3D during a local rally. Andrew also mentioned that since their last album, The Apple Drop, he has launched his own label, No Gold, and initiated an experimental festival series known as Essential Tremors.

Liars are gearing up for a series of performances across the UK and Europe this October, including a special show at Poland’s Unsound Festival, where they will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their acclaimed album Drum’s Not Dead.
