Mariska Hargitay Prepares for Emmys with Unique Hosting Approach

The excitement for the upcoming Emmy Awards is palpable as Mariska Hargitay gears up to host the prestigious event. On Thursday, she welcomed a group of collaborators and producers in downtown Los Angeles to unveil the blue carpet, marking a significant departure from the traditional red in celebration of NBC's 100th anniversary.

In attendance were executive producers Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon, and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay, alongside TV Academy chair Chris Abrego and NBC's Jen Neal. During the event, they announced several noteworthy aspects of the ceremony, including Noah Kahan's role in the in memoriam tribute and special recognitions for the 30th anniversary of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the 50th anniversary of Charlie's Angels.

Hargitay, fresh off her recent Emmy wins for her documentary My Mom Jayne, shared that she has been collaborating closely with the writing team from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The team has been stationed at the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit offices to assist her in crafting her hosting material. "It’s pretty weird to see Captain Benson come up with the gun and the badge and be like, ‘Welcome to the Emmys, everybody!'" Collins humorously noted about their preparation process.

When asked about potential appearances from her SVU co-stars, Hargitay remained tight-lipped, stating, "she has a lot of friends," while also emphasizing her intention to host in her own unique style. "I think one of the most important things is that I, to quote Frank Sinatra, I gotta do it my way," she said. Hargitay is set to lead the 78th Emmy Awards live from Los Angeles on Monday, with coverage on NBC and streaming available on Peacock.
