Martin Herlihy Bids Farewell to SNL After Five Seasons

In a significant change for Saturday Night Live, Martin Herlihy has officially announced his departure from the iconic sketch show after five successful seasons. Known for his work as part of the comedy trio Please Don’t Destroy, Herlihy's exit marks another shift in the SNL landscape.

Herlihy, son of SNL veteran Tim Herlihy, joins fellow Please Don’t Destroy member John Higgins in leaving the show. Higgins, the son of producer Steve Higgins, exited just over a year prior. Meanwhile, the third member of their group, Ben Marshall, has been promoted to the main cast, continuing the group's legacy on the show.

Since their debut in 2017, Please Don’t Destroy has been a dominant force in the SNL Digital Shorts segment, taking over from the beloved trio The Lonely Island. Their success even translated into a feature film released in 2023, titled Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain. Herlihy’s exit comes on the heels of Chloe Fineman's departure in July, as SNL prepares for the premiere of its 52nd season on September 26, with details on the host and musical guest yet to be revealed.
