Miele's Innovative G8 Dishwasher: A Sneak Peek at IFA 2026

Miele has unveiled its groundbreaking G8 Diamond dishwasher at IFA 2026, featuring a camera that captures an image of your dirty dishes just before the wash cycle begins. This innovative feature, known as AutoVision, allows the appliance to tailor its cleaning settings based on what it identifies. For instance, if it detects a bottle, it will activate the BottleClean function, while pots will trigger an increase in cleaning intensity.
The G8 Diamond is set to launch in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland in April 2027. The camera's ability to remember objects throughout the day is impressive; if a wine bottle is loaded in the morning and later buried under lunch plates, the dishwasher still recognizes it as a bottle thanks to that initial snapshot. However, users are advised to position bottles centrally and place pots in the lower basket for optimal cleaning.
What separates Miele’s approach from competitors is not merely the integration of AI but the advanced object-recognition capabilities of its camera. While other brands utilize turbidity sensors to gauge water cleanliness, Miele’s camera identifies specific items, a complex task that has been patented by brands like LG and Bosch but not yet implemented in consumer products.
The G8 also incorporates a decade of automation advancements, including AutoDos with PowerDisk technology, which has been self-dosing detergent since 2018. The dishwasher features ExcellentDry, designed to effectively dry plastic containers, and a redesigned cutlery drawer. Users can schedule cycles via an app to run only when full and at specific times, enhancing convenience.
Miele emphasizes the importance of trust in automation. Dr. Axel Kniehl, Executive Director of Marketing and Sales, highlighted that while intelligence can be programmed, trust must be earned. The AutoVision feature will be switched off by default, allowing users to decide when to enable this new level of autonomy.
Though the G8 Diamond won’t be available until next year, its promise of intelligent dishwashing marks a significant shift in appliance design—where manufacturers are not just removing labor but also making nuanced decisions on behalf of users.
