Argentine President Javier Milei is set to speak to the nation on Thursday regarding the contentious sovereignty claim over the Falkland Islands. This announcement follows remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who mentioned he is reviewing America's stance on the disputed archipelago.

During a cabinet meeting at Casa Rosada, Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno presented insights on Argentina's diplomatic maneuvers, prompting Milei to describe the sovereignty issue as the "most important and sacred cause we Argentines have." He alluded to significant developments that could influence Argentina's position, citing a potential shift in U.S. foreign policy.

Milei previously indicated that the U.S. may require a reliable ally in the South Atlantic, which he believes favors Argentina. However, U.S. officials, including Ambassador Peter Lamelas, have maintained that Washington's neutrality regarding the Falklands remains unchanged. The U.S. State Department acknowledges competing claims while not taking sides.

The British government has firmly reiterated its commitment to the islands, emphasizing that they will remain British as long as the inhabitants desire this status, as evidenced by a 2013 referendum where 99.8% of voters supported remaining a British overseas territory.
