Minor Fire at Karachi Mayor's Office Quickly Contained

By Editor • September 8, 2026 • 1 min read

A small fire ignited at the office of Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab on Tuesday, but quick action by emergency services ensured that it was swiftly controlled without any injuries.

The blaze, which originated from the outer unit of an air conditioner on the first floor of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) building, was classified by South Deputy Inspector General Asad Raza as a "minor fire." Rescue 1122 spokesperson Hassaanul Haseeb Khan reported that firefighters arrived promptly to tackle the situation, limiting damage to just the AC unit. Preliminary investigations suggest that a short circuit may be the cause.

This incident is a stark reminder of the ongoing fire safety challenges in Karachi and across Pakistan, where inadequate infrastructure and lax enforcement of safety regulations often lead to hazardous situations. Recent days have seen multiple fire incidents in the city, including a significant factory fire at the Karachi Export Processing Zone that resulted in minor injuries and extensive property damage.
