Moncler and LoveFrom Unveil Innovative Outerwear Collection Inspired by New York

Luxury outerwear brand Moncler has launched an exciting new collection in collaboration with Jony Ive’s design studio, LoveFrom. This innovative line blurs the lines between fashion and industrial design, featuring a modular outerwear system that promises versatility and style for the upcoming seasons.

The centerpiece of the collection is the Moncore jacket, a down-filled piece designed to serve as a base layer for an expansive three-piece outerwear system, which includes a field jacket, parka, and poncho. Each of these layers easily snaps onto the base layer using a unique magnetic ‘duo button,’ a feature that took four years to develop.

A Playful Tribute to New York

This release coincides with the opening of Moncler’s new flagship store in Manhattan, which boasts views of Central Park. The collection pays homage to the fashion house’s ties to the city, featuring a matte khaki tone adorned with eight themed patches inspired by New York, along with the mascots from both brands: Monduck the duck and Montgomery the bear.

Design Philosophy and Creative Process

In an exclusive interview, Jony Ive explained that the collaboration began with a conceptual approach rather than a specific design. He emphasized the complexity of creating simplicity, stating, “To do something truly simple is extremely hard.” Moncler CEO Remo Ruffini remarked on the fascinating intersection of industrial and fashion design, highlighting that “good design is good design,” regardless of discipline.

The LoveFrom team, composed of diverse design experts, infused the collection with creative elements beyond the garments themselves, including custom animations, postcards, and even illustrated washing instructions. This approach underscores their commitment to transcending traditional design boundaries, fostering a collaboration driven by personal affinity rather than commercial aims.
