NBC News Restructures Leadership Following Janelle Rodriguez's Departure

NBC News is undergoing a significant restructuring at the executive level, following the announcement that Janelle Rodriguez, the network's executive VP of programming, will be leaving her position. Rodriguez informed staff of her decision in a memo on Thursday, expressing her gratitude for a year filled with major events, including the Super Bowl, a presidential interview, and the Olympics, among others.

In her message, Rodriguez noted, "I’ve spent a long time thinking about what comes next, and I’ve decided to leave now to pursue it. It’s the right moment." Her tenure saw her manage critical components of NBC's news division, including NBC Nightly News and the NBC News Now streaming service.

New Responsibilities for Senior Executives

In light of Rodriguez's exit, Rebecca Blumenstein, the president of editorial at NBC News, announced that three other senior executives will be taking on expanded roles. Catherine Kim is set to step up as executive VP of editorial and content, where she will now oversee NBC News Now and special projects. Blumenstein emphasized that this change aims to integrate streaming, digital, and newsgathering efforts more effectively under Kim's leadership.

Veteran Producers Take on Expanded Roles

Additionally, Matt Carluccio, a seasoned executive producer, will broaden his scope to include management of NBC's editorial units focusing on business, health, investigations, and climate. He will continue to drive significant editorial initiatives like Common Ground and Business in America, as well as oversee the weekend editions of Today.

Matt Frucci, currently the executive producer of Nightly News, will now report directly to Blumenstein. Under his leadership, Nightly News has experienced substantial growth and notable audience gains, especially through a recent anchor transition, reinforcing its reputation for outstanding journalism.
