Netflix is set to transport audiences to the rugged landscapes of 19th-century Texas with its latest project, a series adaptation of Larry McMurtry’s celebrated novel 'Lonesome Dove'. The streaming giant has officially ordered the series straight to production, enlisting the talents of co-showrunners Zoe Kazan and Jeb Stuart, who recently collaborated on the adaptation of 'East of Eden' for Netflix.

Kazan and Stuart expressed their enthusiasm for the project, stating, “After our singular experience on East of Eden, we are thrilled to be teaming with Netflix again, along with Teton Ridge Entertainment, to bring Larry McMurtry’s western classic to life.” They emphasized their commitment to honoring the source material and the beloved characters within it, including the iconic duo of Gus McCrae and Woodrow Call.

Originally published in 1985, 'Lonesome Dove' was a major success and previously adapted into an Emmy-winning miniseries in 1989, featuring performances from Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones. Jinny Howe, Netflix’s head of scripted series for the U.S. and Canada, praised the showrunners, remarking on their ability to create deep and emotionally resonant storytelling. Teton Ridge president Jillian Share echoed this sentiment, noting the extraordinary opportunity to introduce McMurtry’s timeless characters to a new generation.
