New Flotilla Sets Sail to Challenge Gaza Blockade

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) has launched a new international mission aimed at breaking Israel's blockade of Gaza, with vessels currently docking at European ports. The initiative, which aims to reach Gaza's shores in October, comes in the wake of ongoing violence against flotilla volunteers, some of whom have reported severe mistreatment at the hands of Israeli forces.

Two vessels are already en route: Handala II, which traveled through Scandinavia this summer, and the Kate, which recently departed from Bristol, UK. The flotilla plans to stop in Spain, Portugal, and Italy before continuing its journey to Gaza. Zohar Chamberlain Regev, a member of the FFC Steering Committee, emphasized the urgency of the mission, stating, "The Freedom Flotilla sails again because our governments continue to fail to uphold their obligations."

The coalition includes a diverse group of participants, ranging from human rights advocates to medical professionals, all united in their call for Palestinian dignity and rights. They are urging governments to ensure the flotilla's safe passage and to press Israel to end its blockade, which has led to a dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Edward Digilio, an engineer from Maryland who is part of the mission, acknowledged the risks involved in sailing toward Gaza but argued that inaction poses a far greater danger to Palestinians. The coalition has historical roots dating back to 2010, when Israeli forces killed ten activists aboard the Mavi Marmara during a similar attempt.
