By Editor • September 12, 2026 • 1 min read

In a significant law enforcement operation, six Nigerian individuals believed to be part of the notorious Black Axe criminal network were extradited to the United States on Friday. These individuals are accused of orchestrating an online romance scam that defrauded American women of more than $6 million.

The extradition was confirmed by South African authorities, who facilitated the transfer at Cape Town International Airport. Officials from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Secret Service were present during the handover, which was executed in cooperation with Interpol South Africa and the local Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, commonly known as the Hawks.

This operation highlights the ongoing international efforts to combat cybercrime and the extensive networks that exploit unsuspecting victims through fraudulent online relationships.
