Operation Thunder Targets Wildlife Trafficking at Kruger National Park

A coordinated law enforcement initiative aimed at combating wildlife trafficking has resumed at the Crocodile Bridge in Kruger National Park. This operation, known as Operation Thunder, is a collaborative effort by various agencies to ensure the protection of the park's wildlife and surrounding ecosystems.

Joint Efforts Against Illegal Trade

Launched on September 14, the operation brings together the Hawks' Nelspruit-based Organised Crime Investigation team, White River K9, Skukuza Vispol, and Kruger National Park Protection Services. The Crocodile Bridge area, located near Komatipoort, serves as a crucial transit point between the park and adjacent communities, heightening the relevance of these enforcement actions.

Focus on Deterrence and Enforcement

The initiative is specifically designed to identify and disrupt illegal wildlife trafficking and the trade in endangered plant species. Colonel Magonseni Nkosi, a representative from the Mpumalanga Hawks, emphasized the importance of the operation in investigating individuals involved in such criminal activities. Law enforcement agents are actively stopping vehicles and conducting thorough searches for any wildlife-related contraband.
