Tragic Collision on Nelson Mandela Boulevard Claims One Life and Injures Thirteen

By Editor • September 15, 2026 • 1 min read

In a heartbreaking incident that unfolded on Monday morning, a 60-year-old woman lost her life, and thirteen others were injured following a crash involving three minibus taxis on Nelson Mandela Boulevard in Cape Town. The accident occurred just before 8 AM as commuters were making their way into the city, leading to significant traffic disruptions.

According to Kevin Jacobs from Cape Town Traffic Services, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Among the injured, three individuals suffered severe injuries, while ten others were treated for more minor wounds. The collision blocked the left lane of the busy boulevard, a key route from the N2 into Cape Town, causing delays for morning travelers.

This tragic event follows another fatal accident in the Western Cape just hours earlier, where a separate crash on the N1 resulted in the deaths of twenty-one people. While the two incidents are not connected, they highlight a concerning trend of road safety issues in the region. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash on Nelson Mandela Boulevard and are expected to provide more information about the injured individuals soon.
