Pakistan Praises UK Sanctions on Israeli Settlements as Israel Retaliates

In a significant geopolitical response, Pakistan has expressed its support for the United Kingdom's recent decision to impose trade sanctions on Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. The Foreign Office of Pakistan stated that these illegal settlements hinder the prospects of achieving a two-state solution.
The UK, alongside Canada and France, announced the sanctions on Tuesday, with British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband condemning the Israeli government's indifference towards what he described as 'ethnic cleansing' by settlers. This move has stirred a more extensive international dialogue, as a coalition of 12 nations, including Denmark and Sweden, indicated their intention to adopt similar measures, highlighting the detrimental impact of Israel's actions on peace efforts.
In a statement on social media, Pakistan's Foreign Office emphasized that the expansion of illegal settlements violates international law and relevant United Nations resolutions. They expressed hope that the sanctions would convey a strong message against illegal activities in Palestinian territories and reaffirmed Islamabad's commitment to supporting Palestine in its quest for self-determination.
Meanwhile, Israel reacted swiftly to the UK's sanctions by shutting down the British consulate in Jerusalem and announcing the expulsion of British representatives involved in monitoring ceasefire efforts in Gaza. British officials, including parliament members, have also been barred from entering Israel. In response, Foreign Secretary Miliband condemned Israel's retaliatory measures as regrettable but maintained that the UK's intelligence and security cooperation with Israel would remain intact.
