Peony Gent: Crafting Textural Art from Nature's Inspirations

Peony Gent, a versatile artist from south London, is pushing the boundaries of texture in her artwork. With a sketchbook in hand, she roams parks and urban locales, infusing her experiences into vibrant drawings.

"I’m really interested in playing with the form of things," Gent explains, as she transforms her observations of trees and flowers into abstract representations. Her work often reflects the interplay between natural elements and urban life, frequently capturing scenes from Burgess Park and Walworth Road.

Recently, Gent has experimented with combining pastels and acrylic gouache to create a unique, textured effect she describes as “chewy and rich.” She aims to maintain the essence of drawing while exploring her creative freedom, emphasizing the joy in the process over perfection.

Looking ahead, Gent plans to expand her series into larger artworks, continually layering textures and embracing the unpredictability of her artistic journey. As she puts it, “we’ll see where it goes!”
