Phillip Lim Launches PlayLoveWin: A Fresh Take on Shirt Design

By Editor • September 1, 2026 • 2 min read

On July 21, fashion designer Phillip Lim re-emerged on Instagram with a heartfelt message announcing his new venture, PlayLoveWin. After stepping away from his long-standing label, 3.1 Phillip Lim, in late 2024, he took a six-month hiatus to rediscover his passion for design.

Lim reflected on this period, stating, "I lost my sense of play… I realized that’s not what I am good at, not what I want to do." He was inspired during his time in Asia, where he also served as Thailand’s 2025 Cultural Ambassador. This experience led him to craft a focused approach to fashion, concentrating solely on shirts.

PlayLoveWin aims to be a unique destination for shirt lovers, offering a variety of fits and fabrics. The collection includes high-twist Japanese oxford cotton and vintage wash broadcloth among others, with Lim emphasizing that it’s not just about one type of shirt but about catering to different preferences and use cases.

To better understand market needs, Lim conducted a survey among friends and colleagues. He discovered a common frustration: many struggled to find shirts that matched their style and fit, or resorted to buying expensive options they were hesitant to wear. PlayLoveWin seeks to address these challenges with a core offering that evolves based on customer feedback.

Interestingly, shirts are experiencing a resurgence in fashion, with noteworthy collaborations like Matthieu Blazy’s partnership with Charvet for Chanel. Lim sees this as a sign that he is in tune with the current trends. He notes, "It’s definitely kismet… I could feel what was percolating."

The name PlayLoveWin reflects Lim’s renewed philosophy. “Play” signifies his desire to enjoy the creative process, “Love” highlights the importance of passion in his work, and “Win” encapsulates his journey as the son of immigrants, grappling with the question of deserving success.

Although initially planning to sell exclusively online, Lim has received interest from former retail partners, suggesting a broader distribution for his new line. He concluded with optimism: "I want to win, and I want you to win, and I want us to win together."
