Phillip Lim Marks Milestones with New Label Launch and Birthday Bash

Fashion designer Phillip Lim celebrated a momentous evening in Manhattan's East Village, where he marked the launch of his new label, PlayLoveWin, alongside his 53rd birthday. This was a significant occasion for Lim, as it was the first birthday party he had ever hosted for himself.

The cozy atmosphere at Có Lạc, chef Helen Nguyen's Vietnamese restaurant, was enhanced by a diverse guest list including ballerina Misty Copeland and fellow designers like Prabal Gurung and Laura Kim. Lim expressed his gratitude to those gathered, stating, "In 53 years, this is the first time celebrating my birthday—and finally, I feel that I should celebrate myself, because I deserve it."

As the evening unfolded, guests enjoyed creative cocktails and shared elevated Vietnamese dishes served family-style. Lim encouraged attendees to connect more deeply by sharing personal stories, facilitated by thought-provoking questions on blank cards placed at their tables.

Reflecting on his journey, Lim shared his desire to return to his creative roots after leaving his namesake company in October 2024. The inspiration for PlayLoveWin emerged while he was in Shanghai, leading him to consider the concept of shirts as a symbol of new beginnings. "A fresh shirt is a new chance to play, love, and win again," he noted.

The evening culminated in a heartfelt toast by Gurung, celebrating Lim’s transformative journey, followed by a surprise cake shaped like one of his new shirts. Lim expressed his joy in being surrounded by his 'found family,' remarking, "They’re all here," as he embraced this new chapter of his life.
