PM Shehbaz Calls for Business Insights to Boost Export Growth

In a bid to propel Pakistan's economy towards export-led growth, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif convened a meeting on Tuesday with key figures from the business community. Emphasizing the necessity of exports for economic progress, he stated, "Whatever growth we have to achieve, it has to be export-led growth, period."

During the discussion, which took place in September, the Prime Minister sought valuable insights from industrialists regarding strategies to enhance exports and tackle potential challenges. He highlighted the importance of special tax relief for exporters as a viable approach to stimulate growth.

Reflecting on past efforts, PM Shehbaz noted the collaborative spirit that led to significant structural reforms over the last two and a half years, yielding an impressive recovery of Rs800 billion without imposing new taxes. Furthermore, he lauded the teamwork between the business sector and the government, indicating a strong commitment to sustainable economic development.

In alignment with this vision, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal reiterated the government's goal of diversifying exportable products and markets to achieve a sustainable growth rate of six percent. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb also stressed the need for a supportive ecosystem for private sector-led growth. Moreover, the recent launch of export insurance coverage aims to bolster small and medium enterprises (SMEs), providing them with the tools to enhance their contribution to the national economy.
