Designer Prabal Gurung took a bold step for Spring 2027 with a collection titled "Ray of Light," focusing on liberating women from traditional corsetry. Gurung, speaking backstage before his runway show, emphasized a message that transcends mere fashion—highlighting the importance of women feeling comfortable and sovereign in their own bodies.

The inspiration for this collection drew from two vastly different worlds: the traditional Nepali women gathered around a dhunge dhara and a carefree Brooklynite reveling at a Zero Chill rave. Despite their contrasting environments, Gurung noticed a shared joy that connected them, stating, "I was like, my goodness, two different places, New York and Nepal, but the same feeling." This realization shaped the essence of his designs.

The collection debuted with a striking strapless white dress, artfully knotted at the hips, evoking a relaxed elegance. Gurung described it as resembling a wrap of bedsheets that allows for both comfort and movement. The show continued with a series of floor-length gowns adorned with intricate marigold and jasmine motifs, showcasing his commitment to emphasizing sensuality and ease over confinement. "I’m trying to release the woman that I’m designing for from all the corsets and everything," Gurung explained, aiming to foster a sense of liberation and comfort in his creations.
