Prank Website Leads to Epstein Files, Distracts from GOP Convention Plans

By Editor • September 4, 2026 • 2 min read

A spoof website designed to mimic the official page for the upcoming Republican National Committee (RNC) Midterm Convention in Dallas has taken the internet by storm, redirecting visitors to the infamous Epstein Files.

On Friday, the website gopdallas2026.com quickly climbed to the top of Google search results, with enticing previews promising details about the September 9-10 convention. However, users clicking the link were met with a surprise, landing instead on the Department of Justice’s site showcasing documents related to the notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The Republican Party swiftly condemned the prank, taking to social media to clarify that the genuine site for the convention is GOPConvention.com. They dismissed the parody as “FAKE NEWS!” amidst a revival of conversations surrounding the Epstein Files, which have long been criticized for their release under the Trump administration.

Political Repercussions and Reactions

Democratic lawmakers have capitalized on the incident, with Representative Ted Lieu of California calling the situation “sort of awesome,” as he shared his experience with the prank site. This event coincides with the ongoing scrutiny of how Trump officials handled the release of Epstein-related documents mandated by the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

Details of the Mock Website

Documentation from the Internet Archive reveals that gopdallas2026.com originally featured a background image of the American Airlines Center, the convention venue, and solicited personal information from potential attendees. Despite its misleading presentation, the site included a disclaimer noting that it was not an official source for convention details.

The upcoming midterm convention marks a significant event for the Republican Party, being the first of its kind, and is predicted to be their largest gathering since 2016. Trump is expected to address attendees on both days to rally support as the party aims to maintain its congressional majorities amid declining approval ratings.
