Prime Video Pulls the Plug on ‘Spider-Noir’ Despite Emmy Nominations

In a surprising turn of events, Prime Video's series 'Spider-Noir' has been canceled after just one season, consisting of eight episodes. This decision comes just as the show was gearing up for the Emmy weekend, where it garnered an impressive 11 nominations, the highest for any Prime Video series this year.

'Spider-Noir,' featuring Nicolas Cage in his debut regular television role, was based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man Noir. Set during the Great Depression, Cage portrayed Ben Reilly, a seasoned private investigator navigating a tumultuous past while serving as the city’s lone superhero. The series was well-received, holding a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with fans giving it a 90% approval rating.

The show was part of Amazon's deal with Sony Pictures TV to explore narratives from the extensive Spider-Man universe. Although 'Spider-Noir' will not return, another series from this partnership is already in the works and expected to be announced soon. The cancellation follows the original airing on MGM+ on May 25, followed by streaming availability on Prime Video, where it achieved 2.6 billion viewing minutes in its first six weeks.
