Public School Unveils 'Living Proof' Collection at NYC Fashion Week

Public School's latest runway presentation at New York Fashion Week showcased a visionary collection for Spring 2027, aptly titled "Living Proof." Designers Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne emphasized a forward-thinking approach, exploring themes of modularity and adaptability in the face of unpredictability.

Weather was a predominant motif throughout the show, influencing everything from the models' windswept hairstyles to makeup that portrayed a weathered look. The collection's ensembles featured embellishments that mimicked raindrops, culminating in a cohesive narrative that echoed the elements. Chow remarked on their focus, stating, "For our second season, it’s all about looking at modularity. Modularity for us is having items around in a way that you’re able to react to anything that’s coming your way."

In a striking blend of materials, the collection included natural wools, baby ribbed cotton, and an assortment of innovative fabrics such as washed synthetics and ripstop nylons, all designed to embody readiness. Signature tailoring and leather pieces remained integral to the collection, punctuated by a palette of navy, black, and gray. Unique highlights included velvet items created to mimic denim through trompe-l’oeil techniques and innovative double waistband pants aimed at enhancing layering.

Additionally, Spring 2027 marks the second collaboration between Public School and Allen Edmonds, featuring two new styles: the Denzel laceless derby and the Russell Longwing. The footwear was designed for practicality, with Osborne noting the laceless design's ease of use. The show also incorporated custom Nike Moon Shoes, sparking speculation about a potential future collaboration.
