Punk Legends Unite for 'God Save the Queens' Festival in London

In a thrilling reunion of punk royalty, members from the iconic bands the Raincoats, the Slits, and X-Ray Spex are set to take the stage together for a supergroup performance next month in London. This special event, titled 'God Save the Queens,' is organized by the Up Yours! collective and marks the 50th anniversary of feminist punk.

The festival will be held on October 16 at Electric Brixton, featuring Gina Birch of the Raincoats and Hollie Cook from the Slits alongside Lora Logic and Paul Dean of X-Ray Spex. The event not only celebrates the music but also coincides with a new exhibit at the Museum of Youth Culture in Camden, showcasing the rich history of feminist punk.

Punk historian Vivien Goldman, who authored 'Revenge of the She-Punks,' will also make an appearance at the festival. She expressed her excitement for the event, stating, 'This festival, and the incredible night we are putting together at Electric Brixton, is that book coming to life on stage.' Other performers include Akiko Matsuura, Rhoda Dakar, Hot Wax, and Celeste Bell, daughter of the legendary Poly Styrene.

Logic shared her sentiments on the significance of this occasion, emphasizing the multidimensional nature of the punk movement. 'Contributing previously unseen artwork to the exhibition while also stepping onto the stage to play these iconic songs again feels like completing a full circle,' she remarked.
