Unveiled in early September, the GTX is a bold step for Jensen, being its first entirely new model aimed at reviving the iconic Interceptor lineup.

At the heart of its distinctive bodywork is the English wheel, a metal-shaping tool that has been in use since the 1930s. This traditional equipment was employed by Coventry Metalcraft’s skilled artisans, who worked alongside advanced computational fluid dynamics software. The result is a striking vehicle powered by a supercharged V8 engine generating 960 bhp, showcasing how old-world techniques can complement contemporary automotive innovation.

Design Evolution by Avant Design

Avant Design, a design studio based in Royal Leamington Spa, played a crucial role in the GTX's development. They expertly translated the proportions of the original 1966 Interceptor into a modern context. Key elements such as the long bonnet and wraparound rear glass remain intact, but the exterior now features sleek LED lighting and large carbon intakes, replacing the chrome-heavy aesthetics of its predecessor. Interestingly, this is not Avant's first attempt at reimagining the Interceptor; their earlier concept, the E-Ceptor, presented an electric version that informed some of the GTX's styling choices.

Material Choices and Manufacturing Insights

Choosing aluminum for both the chassis and body panels was a strategic decision for Jensen. Managing director David Duerden emphasized that aluminum offers a more comfortable ride compared to stiff carbon fiber, which can create a harsh driving experience. Additionally, aluminum’s lower production costs for small batches make it an economically sensible choice for a vehicle expected to be produced in limited numbers. The use of the English wheel not only exemplifies traditional craftsmanship but also circumvents the expensive tooling required for carbon fiber, making it ideal for the GTX's production.
