Revitalizing History: Palazzo Litta Set to Welcome the Public

The historic Palazzo Litta in Milan is on the brink of transformation as AMDL CIRCLE, led by architect Michele De Lucchi, unveils a comprehensive plan aimed at enhancing public access while preserving the building's institutional significance. This ambitious project, commissioned by the Direzione regionale Musei nazionali Lombardia, seeks to breathe new life into the 17th-century structure, integrating cultural and administrative functions.

Historic Architecture Meets Modern Accessibility

Situated on Corso Magenta, Palazzo Litta stands as a remarkable example of Baroque architecture, originally designed by Francesco Maria Richini in the 17th century. Over the years, the palace has undergone various renovations, especially during the mid-18th century, when its opulent interiors were established. Currently, it houses offices for several institutions under the Italian Ministry of Culture, along with the Museo nazionale dell’Arte Digitale. The new masterplan aims to redefine the relationship between these offices and the cultural spaces within the palace, facilitating a seamless flow for both visitors and staff.

A Courtyard for the Community

At the heart of the masterplan is the Cortile d’Onore, envisioned as a vibrant urban courtyard that will serve as the primary interface between the palace and the city. This area will feature essential amenities such as a ticket office, a bookshop, and exhibition spaces, while also providing access to the long-neglected Monumental Garden. With new elevators and pathways, the plan ensures that different users can navigate the building efficiently, enhancing the visitor experience.

Returning Green Spaces to the Public

An exciting aspect of the project is the restoration of the 19th-century garden, which has been inaccessible for many years. This revitalization will not only reintegrate the garden into the visitor experience but will also allow it to host outdoor cultural events, further enriching the palace's role in the community. De Lucchi emphasizes the importance of adapting this historic site to modern needs while respecting its heritage, aiming to create a balance between public engagement and institutional operations.
