CLEVELAND — Reynolds American has unveiled a new line of fruity Vuse Pro vapes, featuring flavors such as peach, berry, watermelon, and fresh mint, at gas stations in Ohio and other select states. However, these products are being sold without the necessary authorization from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The FDA's recent decision to relax its enforcement guidelines has sparked criticism, with some experts claiming it has inadvertently encouraged major tobacco companies to introduce unauthorized products. Mitch Zeller, a former director of the FDA's Center for Tobacco Products, expressed concern over this development, stating, "If the only reason why a major player like this is putting completely unauthorized and illegal products on the market is because of the FDA enforcement guidance, it shows how wrongheaded that guidance is both as a public health matter and as a legal matter."

Experts like Cristine Delnevo from the Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies warn that this could lead to a ripple effect in the industry. With companies like Altria already contesting the FDA over delays in the review process, the fear is that other manufacturers may follow suit, prioritizing product launches over regulatory compliance.
