Rohan Dennis Aims for New Judge in Disqualification Driving Case

Former Olympian cyclist Rohan Dennis is making headlines after pleading guilty to driving while disqualified. The case stems from a tragic incident involving the death of his wife, Melissa Hoskins, who was struck by Dennis's car outside their home in December 2023.

In a recent court appearance in South Australia’s District Court, Dennis's lawyer, Craig Caldicott, announced plans to request a new judge for sentencing. This decision comes on the heels of Dennis's earlier suspended sentence and a five-year driving ban, imposed following the tragic events last year.

While speaking to the media after the court proceedings, Caldicott emphasized that he believes the recusal application is justified, although he did not disclose specific reasons. He noted, “There’s nothing wrong with this judge, he’s a very good judge,” highlighting the importance of adhering to legal protocols. The legal team is expected to submit their written arguments before the next court date set for September 22.

Caldicott also warned that Dennis could face jail time for violating the disqualification, stating, “You should be well aware that driving while disqualified, people go to jail all the time.” Following the death of Hoskins, Dennis had faced more serious charges, including causing death by dangerous driving, but these were later dropped, leading to his guilty plea on a lesser charge.
