Nick Kyrgios Returns to Competition After One-Month Cocaine Ban

Nick Kyrgios is set to return to competitive tennis today, September 4, following the completion of a one-month suspension for a positive cocaine test. The Australian tennis star's initial potential ban ranged from three months to four years, but it was reduced after he agreed to participate in a treatment program.
Kyrgios faced provisional suspension since August 4, stemming from a drug test failure during an ATP 250 tournament in Mallorca on June 22. Acknowledging his "huge mistake," Kyrgios explained that his cocaine use occurred socially shortly before his tournament match. Following an investigation, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) confirmed that his cocaine use was outside of competition, leading to the reduction of his ban.
In addition to his suspension, Kyrgios forfeited the €6,570 he earned from his first-round loss in Mallorca. Despite the challenges posed by injuries that limited him to just four matches this season, Kyrgios expressed a commitment to rehabilitate his life and tennis career. He stated on social media that this incident has served as a wake-up call, and he plans to step back from public life for the next month to focus on his recovery.
