Russian Drone Strike Near Polish Border Targets Train Post Officials' Visit

A Russian drone strike on a train near the Ukraine-Poland border has raised alarms, occurring shortly after prominent European officials, including former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, passed through the same route. The incident, which hit the train's engine in Yahodyn, did not result in any casualties, thanks to the prior evacuation of passengers, as confirmed by Ukrainian authorities.

Johnson, along with other national security advisers, including the UK's Jonathan Powell, was returning from a conference in Kyiv when the attack took place. Ukrainian railway company Ukrzaliznytsia indicated that the drone may have targeted the diplomatic train, given that the train had adjusted its schedule earlier due to ongoing threats from Russian strikes.

The strike occurred just 2 kilometers from the Polish border, with an evacuation order issued only 15 minutes before the attack. Notably, former CIA chief David Petraeus was aboard a different train at Yahodyn station during the drone strike. Meanwhile, former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt, who was also present at the conference, recounted that his train had received evacuation instructions before ultimately continuing safely to Poland.
