Singapore Film Festival Honors Kore-eda Hirokazu and Yim Soon-rye Leads Jury

The Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) is set to celebrate the accomplishments of renowned Japanese director Kore-eda Hirokazu, who will receive the prestigious Cinema Honorary Award this year. The award ceremony coincides with the Southeast Asia premiere of his film "Look Back," scheduled for October 24, ahead of its theatrical release on October 29.

Kore-eda, known for his poignant storytelling focused on familial relationships and societal dynamics, will engage in a special dialogue session on the same day. His illustrious career includes the acclaimed film "Shoplifters," which won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018, marking a significant achievement for Japanese cinema. With his latest works, including "Broker" and "Monster," Kore-eda has solidified his reputation as a leading figure in the film industry.

Additionally, the festival has appointed Korean filmmaker Yim Soon-rye as the head of the Asian Feature Film Competition jury. Yim, an accomplished director with a diverse filmography, will also participate in the SGIFF Industry Days on October 27. This year, SGIFF Pro has expanded its programming to include a variety of new initiatives designed to foster connections between emerging filmmakers and industry professionals, further enhancing the festival's role as a key player in the regional film landscape.
