Stefano Boeri Unveils Modular Timber Housing Project in Ibiza

In a progressive move towards affordable living, Stefano Boeri Architetti has secured the design contract for Sa Casa, a new housing complex in Ibiza that features a modular timber structure. This innovative project, commissioned by the Spanish public housing agency Casa 47, will house approximately 190 apartments distributed across four distinct timber blocks, all surrounding a lush communal garden.

Redefining Housing Layouts

Located in the Ca n’Escandell area on the outskirts of Ibiza Town, Sa Casa encompasses a generous 5,505-square-meter site as part of a larger development aimed at providing over 500 protected housing units. The architecture stands out for its unique approach, as the buildings are designed to step and shift according to the natural slope of the land, creating a series of interconnected courtyards and pathways that lead to a central public square.

Flexible Living Spaces

Utilizing cross-laminated timber (CLT) for construction, the design promotes sustainability and efficiency with a high degree of prefabrication.
